The "Boalserter Skotsploech" is a folkloristic dance group from Bolsward, one of the eleven Friesian cities. The members of the group perform in the traditional Friesian costume of around 1860. The dances on the repertoire of the group date from the same period.

The "Boalserter Skotsploech" was founded in 1958,when it became clear that many traditions, dances and costumes were in danger of disappearing because of progress.
Now almost 50 years later the group is still very much alive. Never before has
there been such a great demand for performances and travel as in the last few years.
In the past the group used to perform just a few dozen times a year, nowadays the group has to dress up into their costumes about 30 times a year.
At the moment the group has more than 30 members, who come from far and wide to maintain and extend the repertoire of about 60 dances.
The members also spend a lot of time in making, looking after and perfecting the costumes and ornaments. All the costumes have by now been approved and can meet any criticism.
It is nice to find that next to similarity there is also a difference in costumes. A difference in colour and model, but also in the further fittings. Different sorts and models of casques are worn for example.
