| The repertoire |
| The costumes worn by the members of
the "Boalserter Skotsploech" are from around 1850-1860,the dances performed with
these costumes are as much as possible from the same period. There are several kinds of dances on the repertoire such as: walses, skotses, mazurkas, formationdances among which the 'tsjerne' and quadrilles like 'the skotse trije','Op e Nijsted', 'Fjouwerisom' and others. Still enough dances can be found and reconstructed to expand the repertoire of the Skotsploegh. We do depend of course on what was left to us by dancing masters and musicians. Fortunately some material was left in Friesland by musicians like Wieger Michiels Visser (1801-1886) and Andries Kiers (1856-1897), and it is regularly used as a source for suitable material . There are still experts who are able to make links between the music and the dancing steps that go with them. |
| The Skotsploegh also has some dances on the repertoire from around the turn of the century, or shortly after, dances which are regularly performed for the older spectators, who of course have no difficulty in quickly recognising them. |
